The Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP) is the largest medical specialty society in Brazil, and the third largest pediatrics society in the world. It has over 20 thousand members, 27 state affiliates, and 28 scientific departments.

The SBP has been working together with the Brazilian Medical Association and the Brazilian Ministry of Health to develop strategies to ensure better work conditions and adequate remuneration for pediatricians. Through its many continued education programs (which include itinerant courses, scientific information centers, and regional conferences), the SBP fulfills its mission of propagating high-quality scientific and clinical knowledge to pediatricians in Brazil and abroad.

With more than 90 years of tradition, the SBP also acts as an advocate for child and adolescent rights in Brazil. A major concern of the SPB is the high child and adolescent mortality and morbidity rate resulting from poor maternal health, poor living conditions, and from the so-called external causes - injuries and violence. Therefore, since October of 1998, the SBP has been engaged in a permanent campaign for the Prevention of Injuries and Violence involving Children and Adolescents.
